8 X 8: CABARET DU JUMP Saturdays, August 8 and 15, 2026

What do we want when it’s hot, vacation’s almost over and a season packed with holiday madness looms just around the turn of a calendar page? Why, we simply want to spend an evening in a cool space, being entertained by a delightful array of San Antonio artists and the confections they’ve whipped up for us.  8 X 8 returns to Jump-Start with eight 8-minute performances in an 8-foot cube and plays Saturdays, August 8 and 15, 2026 (a different show each evening) at Jump-Start Theater, 710 Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio, Texas 78201. Doors open at 7:30 and performances begin at 8:00. Admission is choose-what-you-pay: $0 or $8. Cabaret du Jump is a decades-long Jump-Start tradition. Originally the cabaret was a means for Jump-Start company members to experiment with performance ideas at artistic retreats, which often led to the development of full-length productions. In 2014, Jump-Start decided to invite community artists and audiences to join the company for a Cabaret du Jump presented on an 8’ x 8’ stage.  An open architectural cube now serves as the 8’ X 8’ X 8’ playing area.  

Artists for this year’s 8 X 8 include Familia Bernal, Daniel Jackson, Marisela Barrera, Juan Pablo Robesgil, Space Dragon, Chabriely Rivera Roldan, Skit Marks, Giomara Bazaldua, Paul Harford, Capoeira Luanda & Ilê Bahia and more!

NKubator Artist Jules Vaquera Uses Magic to Make Change.
When a coven of witches has had enough, they perform a series of dark magic rituals, weaving spells to bring about a revolution. Jump-Start Performance Co. presents the work of Jules Vaquera on August 28 and 29 and September 4 and 5, 2026 at 8:00pm. at Jump-Start Theater, 710 Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio, Texas 78201. For more information, call 210-227-JUMP. Jules Vaquera’s faith is in things like love, compassion, and community. When faced with the endless onslaught of oppressive laws and executive orders put forth by the current administration and the reign of terror wrought by I.C.E., her mental health began to suffer. As a lifelong fan of fiction, she suspended her disbelief, and imagined that witchcraft was real, and that she could use it
to make change, bring comfort to her community, and channel their feelings into action. This show is a result of those imaginings.  Jules and Giomara Bazaldua are co-directors of DARK MAGIC FOR DARK TIMES, which is performed by Lisa Suarez, Amalia Ortiz, Florence Bunten, Stephan Gaeth and Jules.
Jump-Start’s annual INKubator program supports a San Antonio artist or collective with a small budget, rehearsal space, tech support, the Critical Response Process and a nurturing environment in which to produce their original performance. Audience attendance and feedback supports the
further development of the artist’s work.
